Family Owned and Operated

A Tradition of Child Care in Riverhead Since 1963

Pine Tree Day Nursery has helped generations of children learn, grow, and feel at home. Our history shapes the care we provide today: personal, dependable, and centered on each child.

Built With a Love for Children

1963

Pine Tree was founded by Gene Murkel, who created a place where children could feel cared for while discovering the world around them. Her love for children also shaped her own family life as the mother of nine.

1983 to Today

Michele Carr purchased Pine Tree in 1983 while preparing to become a mother herself. The center has remained family owned and operated, carrying its original commitment forward while continuing to grow with the needs of local families.

More Than Child Care

The early years shape how children see themselves as learners, friends, and members of a community. We want every child to leave Pine Tree with skills they can use and memories their family will value.

Our classrooms combine guided learning with play, exploration, creativity, and daily routines. Children have space to ask questions, practice new skills, make choices, and gain confidence through experience.

Personal Care With Space to Learn

Our family-owned environment offers personal attention within a center-based early learning program. Children join classrooms designed for their age and development, where caring teachers help them feel secure and included.

Our renovated facility gives children room to learn, create, move, rest, and play. We work to make each classroom welcoming for children and reassuring for parents.

Learning Goes Beyond the Classroom Routine

Children at Pine Tree take part in yoga, dance, music, art, Spanish, nature activities, and community-based experiences. These activities invite them to express themselves, develop new interests, and connect what they learn to the world around them.

Enrichment is included at no additional cost to families.
